“We have merged handcraft and technology to transform a sustainable mobility product like a bicycle”

María del Mar Benítez García, TBK Bike’s CEO, has been interviewed on the radio by Emprenred, a program about undertaking by the University of Seville and Onda Local de Andalucía, to talk about our wooden-framed-bikes project.

During the course of the interview, María del Mar has emphasized the importance of sustainability for TBK Bike, not only during the selection of the raw material – our wood comes from sustainably managed forests,- but also during the production process, in which we hardly emit CO2, which makes our bikes different from conventional ones. Another point which differentiate us from other bicycle manufacturers is that we have merged handcraft and technology to transform a sustainable mobility product like a bicycle.

María del Mar has also talked about our next challenge, with which we would like to mitigate certain beliefs of consumers, as the preconception that our bicycles are more fragile. For this purpose, we are going to compete in the Race Across America (RAAM), a 5,000-km (3,100 miles) non-stop race from coast to coast of the USA, which makes it one of the hardest races in the world. It will be the first time in its 36 years of history that someone competes with a wooden bicycle. Our champion will be Julián Sanz, ultracycling world champion. He has already tested our road bike design, Quimera, and was delighted: “I have never experienced such a comfortable pedaling.”
